Innovate by doing stuff different

I have had James Dyson's autobiography on my wishlist for quite some time. While in Berlin recently I saw one of his other inventions, the Dyson Airblade. Apparently it is 83% more energy efficient than conventional hand dryers on the market.
I guess improvements like this one can only come from forgetting what we know or how we have done things in the past and start from scratch. Or at least by taking the Blue Ocean approach, something e.g. Steve Jobs has done in the past. Taking away features you don't need. Focusing on the core. Identifying which which new features would put a product over the top.
Just the fact that with this setup there are no water puddles somebody has to clean. Nothing to refill. Amazing.
